As part of our ongoing commitment to reduce costs and promote energy efficiency, we have identified an important initiative involving our kitchen staff and the appliances they use daily. Particularly before the holiday periods, and more crucially ahead of the summer holidays, our kitchen staff will be encouraged to thoroughly clean all refrigeration units.
In terms of operational procedures, the kitchen staff will first use up as much of the stored food as possible in the days leading up to the holiday period. This initiative will not only reduce waste but also make the cleaning process simpler and more efficient.
Once the fridges and freezers are nearly empty, the kitchen staff will undertake a comprehensive cleaning of all units. This task is particularly important as a clean fridge or freezer operates more efficiently than one that is dirty or icy. Furthermore, a clean appliance will be ready to be filled immediately when the school reopens, saving both time and effort.
Post cleaning, the staff will consolidate any remaining frozen food into a single freezer. This strategy will allow for the operation of just one freezer, instead of several, over the holiday period. By doing this, we will reduce the number of appliances running unnecessarily, thereby lowering energy consumption and ultimately cutting costs.
All refrigeration units, except the one storing consolidated food, will then be switched off. This action will significantly contribute to our energy-saving goals, as these appliances are typically some of the most energy-consuming devices in a school environment.
We trust that our kitchen staff will actively participate in and support this energy-saving initiative. Not only will this reduce our school's energy costs, but it will also serve as an excellent example of responsible energy use for our pupils. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this action on our school's energy use and cost savings.
