After discussions with the Eco team last week about what messages we wanted to spread with the wider community, we settled on the Challenge 1 Degree initiative from Energy Sparks. I took this plan to the Principal who said it would be great to put this in place.
Therefore, yesterday we sent the following message out to our parents as well as the staff:
Rushcliffe Spencer Academy – Challenge 1 Degree
Rushcliffe has always been an eco-friendly school and strives to keep pushing its students and local community to help be as sustainable and ecological as possible. Therefore, we are proposing that students and parents undertake the Challenge 1 Degree.
With current energy consumption being a major factor for climate change, it is crucial that we all do what we can to lessen our carbon footprint and reduce emissions. It’s been calculated that for each home turning down their thermostat by one mere degree this could prevent 310kg of carbon emissions each year! With the warmer weather on its way (fingers crossed!) this would be an ideal time to consider taking this challenge up.
So please help the environment by being part of the Challenge 1 Degree.
Thank you,
Mr Lakin and the Rushcliffe Eco Team
