Regularly audit your school’s energy use and identify areas for improvement - IT department are looking into putting wifi onto a time system as it is deemed to be wastful energy when this is left on 24/7, IT are also in the process of working out how much enegy a server unit costs and to see if any savings can be made on this by unplugging unused cables
Switch off whiteboards in classrooms when they are not in use and before leaving the classroom - All white boards are on atim clock system we have introduced come on at 08.00hrs and turn off at 16.00hrs Monday to Friday
Ensure all computer monitors are switched off whenever they are left unattended - Teachers ask students to switch off computers when not in use, all student computers are on a time clock and switch on at 06.00hrs and switched off at 15.15hrs Monday to Friday
Encourage staff to turn off equipment like smart boards and projectors at the wall rather than just using remote controls- Time clocks introdced and they do this automatically
Install an automated system where all computers shut down automatically at the end of the day - This has been introduced via time clocks as stated above
Implement a sticker coding system (traffic lights or shapes to assist those that may be colour blind). Green indicates equipment which should be switched off when not in use (for example, PCs, projectors and interactive whiteboards). Amber highlights equipment which should be switched off after ensuring that no-one is using it (for example, the main office computer). Red indicates equipment which must not be touched and should not be switched off (for example, a server or a fridge.) Place a coloured sticker onto the on/off switches and plugs of each item of Information Technology equipment and communicate to all school users that they should look to switch off equipment unless it is marked red - TFA student council introduced this sytem and have now completed the full site
