Due to the ongoing COVID Pandemic, we have received CO2 monitors which we have placed in every classroom in the school. The readings on the monitors are recorded 3 times a day. The children understand that a reading below 800 is good and a reading above 1500 is not good! However, we have encouraged the children to be vigilant every time the reading reaches a 4 figure number. At this point the external doors to the classrooms must be opened to allow ventilation of the room. All children are keen to take on the responsibility of monitoring CO2 levels and support each other in helping to keep our school a safe environment to be in. The reading often fall significantly within 15 minutes. By using the monitors as a guide to the level of CO2 in the room, it means the classroom doors and windows don't need to be open for long periods of time in the day and therefore energy usage remain efficient.
The uploaded document shows readings until December but reading have continued to be taken 3 times a day since Christmas too. We have found the classrooms with draft excluder blinds hanging in their doorways often have higher readings!
