Get your whole school involved with a whole week of activities devoted to reducing energy use at your school! Our themed week is packed with opportunities to learn about energy, investigate how you're using energy in your school and of course, many ways to
take action to save energy, money and help prevent climate change.
Some activities can be carried out by the entire school, whilst other activities work better as a class or in small groups. Come together at the end of each day so that pupils can share their results and recommendations with the rest of the school.
Day 1: Discover Kick things off with an assembly to get the whole school excited about the week ahead. Today you'll be learning about where energy comes from, why our energy use has such an impact on our warming world and starting to analyse energy data from your own school.
Day 2:
Investigate Now investigate energy use at your school with a range of activities that examine how and where energy is used - and wasted! - in your school. Come together at the end of the day to share your results and recommendations.
Day 3: ActIt's time to develop and implement energy saving actions for your school! Whether in classes, school houses or mixed age groups, everyone can get involved in reducing energy use at your school. Don't forget to hold an assembly at the end of the day to share your hard work.
Day 4: ShareYou're changing your school for the better and you're changing the world too! Develop ways to share your learning and actions with families and friends of the school plus the wider community. Hold an assembly at the end of the day to present what you have created.
Day 5: CelebrateWhat a week! Think about what your next steps on your energy saving journey will be. Celebrate what you have accomplished with a final assembly or an exhibition of children’s work in the hall. Invite families into school to share, learn and celebrate at the end of the day.
Don't forget to record the activities you take part in! Holding an Energy Week whole school event also enables you to collect BIG Energy Sparks points for the activities:
The school holds a themed event focusing on energy use and
The school runs a longer term switch-off campaign at school (eg. Switch Off Fortnight).
Our suggested programme offers a range of Energy Sparks activities (ordered approximately by day below), some of which could be carried out during the week - or add your own and record them
here. We'd love to hear how it goes so send us photos, videos or examples of work at hello@energysparks.uk or by tagging us on Facebook or Twitter.
